Crowborough is a lovely town in the county of East Sussex - only seven miles from Royal Tunbridge Wells. Modern day Crowborough had its origins in the 19th century with the first railway station in action in 1868. This supported local commerce and the sale of Crowborough products further afield. The town also became known for the healthy outdoors and it was called 'Scotland in Sussex' with the heady combination of woodlands and hills. This rural charm is hinted at in the names of streets in the town such as Barnfield, Aviemore Road, Forest Rise, Crowborough Hill, Fielden Lane, Rannoch Road, Hurtis Hill, Fermor Road, Marden's Lane, Walshes Road, Smugglers Lane, St John's Road, Treblers Road, Millbrook Road, Palesgate Lane, Montargis Way, Clackbarns Lane and Rochester Way. Crowborough is a thriving town with a great relaxation feel, enjoyed by both residents and visitors alike.
Crowborough has had its fair share of famous residents, both past and present. They've come from a wide spectrum of science, arts and technology, as well as sportsand culture. Perhaps one of the most famous is the creator of Sherlock Holmes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. He lived for more than 20 years at Windlesham Manor, following a relocation from Surrey. The town honours his memory with a statue at Crowborough Cross. Another equally famous resident is the actor David Jason, of TV's Delboy and Inspector Frost fame, as well as astronaut Piers Sellers, actor Dirk Bogarde, actress Cate Blanchett, Tom 'Dr Who' Baker, singer Keyy Katona, England rugby union player. Dylan Hartley, and actor Ross Kemp. Other respected residents include Sir E. E. Evans-Pritchard, social anthrpologist, naturalist Richard Jefferies, and pioneering engineer Isaac Roberts.
Residents in Crowborough take part in regular community events. Bonfire night on November 5 is particularly popular. About 5,000 folk come together on Goldsmith Recreation Ground to enjoy the spectacle. Carnival Night in September is also popular. It involves a torchlit procession with a carnival princess and a fete on the main green. Crowborough Bonfire and Carnival Society is responsible for both town events, which is supported by other bonfire societies in Sussex. Both Christmss and summer fairs also prove popular. Farmers markets take place each month with a continental market in June.
Competent Person Registration Scheme - HETAS
The installation, replacement or any alteration to the position of a solid fuel combustion appliance (wood burning stove) is subject by law to building regulations. Competent person schemes were introduced by the Government in 2002 to allow individuals to self-certify that their work complies with these regulations; as an efficient alternative to notifying the local authority or using an approved inspector. I am part of such a scheme - see below - which gives customers reassurance that my work is legally compliant.
HETAS is the official body recognised by the Government to approve solid fuel domestic heating appliances, fuels and services including the registration of competent installers and servicing businesses. To achieve this objective, HETAS operates a registration scheme that supports installers and businesses involved in this area to work safely, efficiently and within the various regulations which apply to the work involved.
TLC Liners and Stoves is HETAS registered and, after commissioning your wood burning stove, a certificate will be issued.
